Gosh! usually I am in lurking mode and don´t post, but this time I should
have answered (the obvious reason is that I am spanish, living in Madrid),
but I have been away from my home since tuesday 13th, and I didn´t read the
mail.

Thank you Mike and Seth for calling me, and I am sorry, but my job makes me
travel a lot.

Seth is right, I used to play drums in Los Nikis but that was looong time
ago! If you want to listen to the best Nikis song, buy The Mockers Lonesome
Death of the Electric Campfire and play The Emperor Strikes Out, or watch
the video in http://www.themockers.net/sounds.html

And about spanish power pop, this is only a list according to my musical
taste, but these are my favorites. Now it´s too late for Alexandre, but it
may be helpful to any other auditeer:

The Happy Losers - Harry , Beardo, Doc & Barry (produced by Michael
Carpenter, Beatles, Kinks, and new wave)
Cooper - Fonorama (mod, new wave)
The Sunday Drivers - Little Heart Attacks (Beatles White Album era)
The Charades - When Shining Blue (Cheap Trick meet The Primitives)
Champagne - Ready, Steady, Go (they love FOW)
Rubin - Esperando el tiempo (this is not really spanish, he is from
Argentina. Used to be in a very good band, Grand Prix, with a great TFC
sound. This album is really cool)
Los Flechazos - Haciendo astillas el reloj, the best of (the spanish mod
band. Cooper frontman, Alex, was the singer, guitar and songwriter)
Bubblegum - 10 stereo pictures (classic power pop, Cheap Trick, Rubinoos,
..)
Octubre - Cuando todo parecia perdido (beautiful! Big Star, TFC,..)
Lori Meyers - Hostal Pimodan (they were big in Spain in 2006, but they
deserve it. Beautiful pop songs)
Carrots - Sunshine (the album name speaks for itself: sunshine pop,
psychedelia, bubblegum pop, even prog! very cool)
Sidonie - Shell Kids (these guys are assholes, and their last album sucks,
but Shell Kids was a great psychedelic beat pop album)
The Winnerys - Daily Urban Times (of course, my best of 2006 album)
Los Imposibles - Lost & Fun (Spain´s best beat band)
Zodiacs - Zodiacs (Rock & Roll!, Mando Diao, Jet, .. please watch this video
http://www.loszodiacs.com/site/video.htm )

And of course, the best spanish power pop band:

The Mockers - Any album. (Seto, Antonio, Roberto and Nelsonio are, by far,
the best pop band in Spain. They will be touring soon in march. I hope some
day the will have enough money to travel to the USA, so you can all see
their great live show. Only problem: they keep on singing in their broken
english. BTW, do you know they have a movie? Go to
http://www.myspace.com/mockersthemovie and you can read about it and see 4
clips, and if you watch the clip "Live in Madrid - Highway Star", in the
middle, while Tony is being interviewed, and says "no voice, no nothing,
just pure rock&roll.." you can see a pretty girl and an ugly guy behind,
that´s my wife an me, je je!)

Not really power pop, but I like it:

La Casa Azul - Tan Simple Como El Amor (Electronic twee pop, Pizzicatto 5..)
La Buena Vida - Vidania (soft pop, Club 8, Acid House Kings,.)
Lemans - Catastrofe nº 17, the best of (more soft pop)
Bel Divioleta - Espejos (more soft pop, but also french 60´s pop, France
Gall, Francoise Hardy,..)
Los Soberanos - Maratón Ye-Ye (Retro 60´s Ye-Ye pop, fun!)
Airbag - ¿Quién mató a Airbag? (Punk -Pop, go to http://www.mondoairbag.tk/
then to mp3, and download their great christmas song "Buscando los Regalos
de Navidad"
Los Acusicas - Yo Maté a Kennedy (Punk - Indie - Pop. With Joaquín, the
brains in Los Nikis. Go to http://www.losacusicas.com/ then to
"audios/videos" to watch the video of "Me Gusta Ser Normal", very
funny, specially if you can understand the lyrics in spanish)

And for stores, in Barcelona you have to go to Tallers street, 5 minutes
walking from FNAC Plaza de Cataluña. Many good stores.
In Madrid you need to go to Escridiscos, 2 minutes walking from FNAC Callao.
Best brick and mortar record store I know, and super nice people.

Sorry again for being so late, and back to lurking mode!

Rafa
