Not sure if this was mentioned but I just finished Police guitarist Andy
Summers' 2006 memoir, "One Train Later" which chronicles the ups and
downs of his life as a journeyman guitarist and his long-standing love
affair with the guitar from childhood through his pre-Police struggles
on into the band's success and demise. I found it a fascinating read
especially as a guitar player who idolized Andy when I was a kid (was
always more interested in his style while other kids my age at the time
were trying to shred like Randy Rhoades :-).

Always knew Andy was quite a bit older than Sting/Stewart but was pretty
surprised to learn that he was basically more of a contemporary of
Clapton's and Hendrix, etc. Hanging and jamming with those guys in
swinging 60s London. I suppose it's essential reading for any Police
fan or guitar player interested in Andy's very original and influential
style but I think it would also be enjoyable for the non-musician as he
continually touches on the very real life issues everyone faces in terms
of balancing one's personal life/career/passion, etc illustrating how
success (and failure) play into that and so on.

Most highly recommended.
