Off the Record (San Diego) - just before I started working their I heard the
first album by Dexy's Midnight Runners - Searching for the Young Soul Rebels
- till this day the opening of the album where it mimics the turning of the
dial until you get to Kevin's voice "Big Jimmy!" -the horns, the
passion..the drama..
The Troubador (Los Angeles) - during a Pop event (maybe Poptopia?) - first
time I saw Ultimate Fakebook - blew my mind (because everyone thought that
Ultimate Fakebook was going to be Redd Kross - but then these three nerdy
guys from Manhattan Kansas blew us all away and you should have seen
everyone run for the merch table in the lobby as soon as their set was done
Chris Shannon's apartment (Berkeley) - Sitting in the mathematical
economist's apartment grading final exams for Intermediate Micro Theory (for
which I was the GA) and listening for the first Uncle Tupelo album played
loudly - changed my life-she and her husband were from Kansas City so that
explains the connection.
so many more..so many more..
