Two of my faves come from a fairly obscure songwriter, Jude Johnstone. "Wounded Heart" - which Bonnie Raitt covered (how I discovered Jude) and especially "When Someone Speaks Your Name". Check her out, she is immensely talented.

Karla Bonoff's "Daddy's Little Girl" from the second Bryndle CD, about the death of her father.

Stephen Bishop: "Madge", "Natalie", and about a thousand others.

By the way the title for that execreble 70s song previously referred to may just be "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast". I was in a country band that had to do it for the bandleader, and we used to refer to it as "Daddy, stop fuckin' RUNNING!" behind his back.
