"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" by Elton John. I would have said "Sorry 
Seems To Be The Hardest Word" except for its lack of pathos (way too over 
the top for that). And "Empty Garden" falls somewhere between the two.

A weird one for me is Tom Cochrane's "Big League" which is very upbeat in 
the chorus, but the words are absolutely heart-wrenching as it describes the 
death of a junior hockey player killed in a fatal head-on collision. Doesn't 
get much sadder than that.
