John Micek:
"For me, the best record is still 'Ghost In The Machine,' if only for
'Invisible Sun.'"
For me, SYNCHRONICITY is the high-water-mark album, but "Sun" is my favorite Police song.
Will Harris:
"I fell in love with 'Synchronicity'
almost immediately...except Andy Summers' excruciating 'Mother.' But I
absolutely love love love Stewart Copeland's 'Miss Gradenko,' as well as
Sting's 'Tea in the Sahara.'"
Agree, agree, agree and agree. This reminds me of a years-ago Audities thread in which we discussed flawed masterpieces --specifically those cases where one outstandingly bad song pulls down the average of an otherwise-fabulous album. I recall that Summers' "Mother" had its defenders, and not just Stewart.
Josh Chasin:
"On their first US tour, they didn't have enough material to fill out the
set, so they used to stretch out on a couple of songs."
Yep. I saw them then in a tiny club in Rensselaer, NY. (The name of the place is lost to the mists of time and Tuborg Gold.) They played the entirety of the first album and filled out the rest with reggae covers and "Good Golly Miss Molly."
