I was lucky enough to have seen The Police three times "back in the day" (as the kids say) ;-)

Once was during the "Zentyatta Mondatta" tour at the Tower Theater outside Philly. Really great, high-energy show.

They only played one U.S. date in 1981 and it was at the old Liberty Bell Racetrack in Philadelphia - I don't think it's there anymore. It was one of those multiple band bills and they headlined (The Coasters, The Go-Go's, Oingo Boingo, and The Specials were also on the bill). I recall it being incredibly hot that day and the "Ghost In The Machine" LP was not out yet. But they played a bunch of songs from it anyway including "Demolition Man" twice - the second time with Sting playing sax. That was a fun show.

Then I saw them at the Spectrum during the "Synchronicity" tour and was starting to lose interest. They seemed bloated to me by that point.

I'm on the fence about seeing them again, but the prospect of seeing them open the Grammys has my interest. Brace yourself John, they'll probably play "Roxanne" (just a guess). As someone else pointed out earlier, I'm glad they're opening the show since I can then turn it off once they're done playing.

Cheers, Michael
