It's all of these things...including a North American tour.
They've been rehearsing in Vancouver for the actual tour. They're
currently in LA warming up to do the Grammy bit. And Miles Copeland
has hand-picked four or five tribute bands to help promote the tour,
the catalogue and any other stunt they can think of. A musician whom
Segarini and I have seen in action as a dead-ringer sounding Sting
got the call from Copeland personally and is on his way to LA to get
the goods on what the full battle plan will be.
Man, I am so jacked for this. The Police were my favorite band in college
and for years after they broke up. I saw them on the "Ghosts" tour, but
sadly I saw them in the Greensboro Coliseum before they renovated the
place. It was some of the most godawful acoustics in the history of music
and they sounded like crap. Obviously not their fault, but still. The
opener was The Go-Go's, who were at #2 with "We Got the Beat" at that
point, and they actually sounded better, perhaps because their approach
was less complex?
In any case, I hope they come to Denver....
