Glad you liked Jake's book. I really loved reading it.

I've read about 12 of the 33 1/3 titles so far and have largely enjoyed
the series. Some, like In Utero (which I'm almost done with), is a
pretty straight forward document of the entire recording history for
that album. Others, like Colin Meloy's (The Decemberists) essay on The
Replacement's Let It Be is less about the actual album and more about
what it meant to him while growing up.

So far, my favorite has been for GBV's Bee Thousand. Most of the band
members were interviewed for it and is a great reminder of what a
weirdly wonderful album that is.

I just picked up the new edition of "Across the Great Divide" (by Barney
Hoskyns) about The Band. I've only heard antidotes about what a dick
Robbie Robertson has been to his bandmates. I'm anxious to read the
whole story. From what I gather, this book is pretty accurate. I also
want to read Levon Helm's book ("This Wheel's on Fire") on the Band, but
I'm guessing that it's a bit biased.

Chris

Although I find the books hit and miss, Continuum's 33 1/3 series has
been keeping me busy lately.

Although one of my favorites, Joe Pernice's Meat is Murder, really
wasn't about the album.
Other ones I've enjoyed are the books on Low, Sign O' the Times, Exile
on Main St and Village Green.

My least favorite, by far, was Forever Changes.

Hi folks,
I've just finished Jacob Slichter's excellent tome "So You
Wanna Be A Rock & Roll Star" (big thanks to whoever mentioned it on the
list!) and aim to get the Jeff Murphy book too. Any other lesser known
books
that might appeal to me and others on this list? Just getting my summer
holiday books ready...

Thanks in advance, Brian

PS. I've heard the Mika album and for me it only has a couple of good
tracks - maybe it'll grow on me though
