Dave,

Regarding BMG, I'd recommend you quit after meeting your membership requirements and joining YourMusic.com (run by the same people). The main difference is that YourMusic.com has no shipping fees, and CDs are $6.99 each disc. BMG shipping was $2.79 last time I ordered, and CDs are $18.98. You get a good deal for signing up for BMG, but you never get that good a deal again.

If you like Nellie McKay, you should like Fiona Apple (and Regina Spektor, for that matter). I liked the Robert Randolph live CD pretty well; has sort of a gospel feel to it. I also liked that OK Go CD; I think it made the top 20 of 2006 list here. You've probably heard the two songs attached to low budget dance videos; they're something of a phenomenon.

Subject: advice on BMG CDs?

I got the new Nellie McKay double CD and the new Decemberists CD at Best
Buy for like, $7 and $9 each. I saw some folks dissing the McKay disc,
and I agree its not as good as her debut, but so far I'm digging it.
Worth $7 IMO. Have yet to ck out Crane Wife.

Also, I'm planning on subscribing to BMG and see a few interesting CDs
there - some Kinks from Muswell to recent, Springsteen's new one, lotsa
classic stuff from 60s-80s I'd like to fill some holes in my collection.

Also some newer discs of which I am unfamiliar - anyone care to comment
on the following?

Nina Gordon - Bleeding Heart Graffiti - I really like her previous solo
album, sounded to me like the followup to Aimee Mann's great Whatever
CD, wondering if the new one is any good?

Kate Bush - Aerial - I love Kate's first 4 or so CDs, and like most
everything after that

Elton John - Captain and the Kid - is this the return to form that some
ads claim?

Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend 2 disk reissue - what is in the second disk,
and is it worthwhile? I love the original

Herb Alpert - Rewhipped - is this any good? The original is an old fave
of mine

NY Dolls - One Day... new one - love their old stuff

Costello/Tousaint - River in Reverse - I love Elvis thru Spike,
everything thereafter is hit and miss with me

Robert Randolph and the Family Band live - I saw some clips of this guy,
I'm typically not much of a blues fan, but he is awesome

And the following artists - don't have any of their stuff but have heard
good things - ?

Ok Go - Oh No

Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine

Blur - Best Of

Dresden Dolls - Yes Virginia

Rufus Wainright - Poses, Want two

Butch Walker - Rise and Fall of BW and the Lets Go Out Tonights

KT Tunstall - Eye to the Telescope

Mucho thanx in advance, oh wise ones!

Dave
