The persona is off-putting to many - but live I didn't see a bit of it. He
let fan club members in for the sound check. He was funny and charming -
not to mention top-flight playing from him and his band. Chatted up the
audience - dragged people on-stage to sing and dance or just hang on the
stage couch - kinda show-biz contrived but fun. And his band showed up to
play 'till the wee hours at a local blues clubs' open mike night. I haven't
bought an album since the eighties but had a great time and renewed my
respect.
