Woo-hoo, Kelly ... long time no hear. Pop by more often, why don't you
:-) . Say hi to Jocelyn G from me, if you still see her around.
I sure wish I had seen you belting out some godawful MOR schlock on one
of my visits to Chicago. I used to be a big Karaoke fan myself a few
years ago when there were loads of Karaoke bars in the UK. My party
piece was "Great Balls of Fire", I especially liked making a shaky-head,
wobbly-lips noise in the pause between "Kiss me baby..." and "... Mmmm,
feels good.". A good song for Karaoke lovers who can't really sing!
Also, one New Year's Eve back in the 80's, Janice and I were going to a
big party which had a Karaoke stage. Knowing about it in advance I
decided to practice the Righteous Brother's version of "Unchained
Melody" (the irony of that title never occurred to me at the time ): it
went down really well on the night, I hit the mad high notes ("I
nee-ee-eed your love") and got a standing ovation. As I handed the
mic. back to the MC, he shouted to the audience, "Shall we get him to do
another?". "YES!!", they shouted back. I asked him for my next choice
of song but he replied, "Oh no, son. This time I'm choosing the song".
It was Chris Rea's "Lady In Red" - I never before realised what a high
key that song is in, I think I got booed off around the third line of
the chorus!
