Bill writes,
" Funny, I read the entire thread and there was only *one* person whose
remarks were anywhere near confrontational. "
The first reply to Paula's post was yours - you advised her not to take Gabe's troll seriously. I've learned to ignore his remarks, too bad Paula took him more seriously than he deserves.
I'm a moderator of a Yahoo! group, so I'm familiar with this pattern - a lurker who seldom has anything constructive to add to the discussion (Paula's previous post was in Sept. 2005) makes a big noise about being offended by a thread and screams they are leaving, but somehow they continue posting. Paula won't be missed here, she seldom had anything to say.
Jason wrote this which is just as offensive as what Gabe wrote, except Jason was serious -
"It's disappointing threads like this that are isolating this pop scene amongst "balding, middle-aged men." .... bitter old dudes curled up with copies of "Goldmine" "
As a 52 year-old man who's hairline is diminished, this galls me. Should I scream "I'm leaving" and hope I'm begged to stay? No, I'd rather point out that IMHO ageism = racism = any other prejudice, should not be tolerated, suggest that Jason learn more about the subject http://www.webster.edu/~woolflm/ageism.html and also remind him that if he is lucky, he will also one day get old.
See ya,
Sherman
