Funny, I read the entire thread and there was only *one* person whose
remarks were anywhere near confrontational. And that only because they
disagreed with you and were challenging your opinions about what sells and
the validity of why people buy music. You want to be popular solely on your
music, Rob would be happy if people bought his records by accident.
Considering you're both trying to make a living as musicianns I found it an
interesting debate. Well, I did...you're not playing anymore.
The remainder of the posts said something along the lines of "I don't buy
music based upon what the artist looks like", with a few admitting they are
familiar with your work and like it. I would think you'd consider this
validation...are you unhappy because these people don't line up alongside
your thoughts? I don't think anyone disagrees that it's hard to make it in
this business as a woman (or a middle aged balding guy, for that matter) or
that it's frustrating knowing that no-talented hotties will get ten times
the pub you (or that bald guy) ever will because right or wrong. looks sell.
But when people who actually like your music on merit try to tell you that,
and it isn't resonating with *you*...is that my/our fault?
> Sadly, most of them replied directly to me, not to the whole list.
The fact that many people are "secret admirers" whenever a point of
discussion comes up is unfortunate. A community of mutes isn't exactly a
community. But that's been a long-standing problem on Audities and many
other listgroups - people are either afraid to voice their opinion, don't
want to start/participate in an argument/discussion, or are just
subversively and privately opinionated. Glad you got your phantom props.
Seems like it wasn't enough, though, since you packed your bags.

Perhaps they didn't take the whole thing seriously enough to even comment?
Or maybe the topic has been beaten to death several times over ten years on
Audities. But I'm sure they appreciate being called cowards for not
responding.
Sincere good luck with your career and future efforts. I'm not sure I
understand your thinking but - like your looks - it hasn't impacted my
enjoyment of your music.
cheers

PS - Hopefully you're not offended by my note. But at least you weren't
misquoted.
