Well, I saw the Rolling Stones in 1966 @ Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh
NC and they did erect a welded-wire fence around the stage and placed
rent-a-cops arms length appart in front of the fence, just in case the
mostly teenybopper crowd went psycho and rushed the stage. Fortunately
no harm came to band, cops, audience or fence, though due to a recent
comment by non-Stone George Harrison the stage was pummeled with jelly
beans when the Stones began their set. I think ticket prices hit a new
high for the concert (which also included local sensations The Embers
and The Shirelles), exceeding $12, which would be $75 after inflation
adjustments. And the only folks over 50 were chaperones and maybe the
promoter Joe Murnick.
