I ready every issue, but have thought that to be the case for years.
Look at the CDs featured in the front that you can choose from when
subscribing. Then look at the next several pages on the mini (as in 1
page) articles on different bands and artists. A lot the subscription
CDs are from the same bands that are in the features. Co-inkydink? Nah.
Pretty clear a "I'll scratch your back" scenario. So I've always figured
reviews were primarily handled the same way.

I'm not at all saying this is necessarily bad. Certainly one way for a
label to get coverage. I just hope it's never at the expense of a kick
ass new CD dying to be reviewed only to find there's no room (or no
label money).

Actually, I've gotten less and less interested in Amplifier (with
exception of the regular features, like John Borack's page). It seems to
me that the coverage has well expanded past the initial power pop genre.
I find that I'm wading through a lot more editorial these days to find
something that I'm interested.

Chris

all this assumes of course that the article is 100% accurate

I write for Amp and I believe that Joe loves music and balances quite
well
the commercial and artistic sides of being a publisher of a music mag...

anyone out there who actually reads Amp and have the sense that it is
skewered only towards bands/labels that advertise?

I mean, this is an emotional issue so why don't we keep to the facts...
