Delurking at the moment
Amplifier has been a fine publication over the years. While this
pay-to-play doesn't surprise me, I am a little shocked that Joe Joyce
would be brazen (fill in your own choice word here) enough to actually
put it in writing. All he had to say was "thanks for your feedback." Now
he has a cow-pie storm brewing that can not be good for his magazine.
We want the illusion that editorial and advertising has a wall between
the two even if the truth is otherwise.
The exchange between Birdman and Amplifier has revealed the real trouble
that faces both the labels and print publications.
In the last week V2 records has ceased to exist except as a catalog
label. Sugar Hill Records (folk/americana/country) had their North
Carolina office unceremoniously closed by the parent company after 30
years.
Last year was ugly with the closure of Tower and Musicland. This year
looks to be even uglier.
Support your local mom and pop or your favorite mail order company
because if the business continues its downward spiral you will be
reliant on illiterate bloggers for your music information.
