I think iTunes does as good a job as it can - if you turn the option
off you should hear a dramatic difference.  It's very difficult to get
them all sounding the same due to the different style of mastering
nowadays - I would normalize the cds I made for the radio show I used
to do and I had to be carefull - to match some of the older songs my
overall level would be so low that I would have the fader on the board
pinned and still be too quiet.
