Here's a quick list:
1. Drake Bell - It's Only Time
I bought this for my 11-year-old and fell in love with it myself! Even
I can't believe it beat out Silver Sun for the top spot.
2. Silver Sun - Dad's Weird Dream
I must have blinders on when it comes to this band because the songs
were good enough for me to ignore what others consider an awful mixing job.
"Find Him and Love Him" ranks up there with the all-time Silver Sun greats.
After paying for the pre-release and UK official release, I now hear that
the Japanese version has a heavier production value. This one may justify
owning all 3 versions.
3. Orson - Bright Idea
Bright, hooky power pop. Just the way I like it!
4. Doug Powell - Four Seasons
The "new cars" tunes jumped out of the car speakers and grabbed my ears.
The other tunes were classic Powell from other releases. The guy has one of
the best pop voices around!
5. Def Leppard - Yeah!
Simply a great collection of covers. "Waterloo Sunset" is the killer
track.
6. L.E.O - Alpacas Orgling
Fun and successful in conjuring up ELO. It veered toward the
synth-heavy 80's material but I still liked it plenty.
7. Cheap Trick - Rockford
I had given up on this band, but they came through with this release!
It helps me shake the memories of "Special One" ((shudder))
There are probably many deserving releases in the "to be listened to" pile
but I haven't found the time........
Disappointments:
Beatles - Love
It did trigger my memories of "Stars on 45" - and I liked that better!
The Format - Dog Problems
Decent tunes, perhaps, but the vocals reminded me of Shannon Hoon - not
a good thing in my book.
Looking forward to the final results.
