1. SPOCKS BEARD--- s/t (MetalBlade)
A crammed digital slab, coming in at 78 minutes long, with styles
ranging from hard rock to classic prog to hooky pop, the Mighty Beard
get better with each new release.

2. SLOANNever Hear the End of It (YepRoc)
I cheated. This didnt get released in the US til 07, and thats when
I got it. But its too good to wait until next years list.

3. Wisely---Parador (Not Lame)
If this CD consisted of only two songs--- "Through Any Window" and the
title track, it still would have placed this high. But lucky listeners
get 11 pop gems from Willie.

4. L.E.O.---Alpacas Orgling (Cheap Lullaby)
A somewhat precious concept turns, but with stellar results.

5. Persephones Bees---Noted From the Underworld (Columbia)
Another late entry, this SF band (with contributions from Bart Davenport
and P. Hux) delivers a surprising and fun entry. "Queen meets the
Cardigans" indeed.

6. FEEL ---Steps to Reach a Human (West American)
Scott Sax and Co. deliver another pop masterpiece. "This is Our Moment"
is one of the best pop songs of the year.

7. Lindsey Buckingham--- Under the Skin (Reprise)
Sonically, this CD is my #1 for the year. An amazing production, even if
the individual songs arent totally memorable.

8. Twinkelhead--- s/t (Division)
The late 60s Bee Gees meet the Moody Blues in America...from a
Scandinavian band. Classic stuff from a contemporary band.

9. The Feeling---Twelve Stops and Home (Empire)
Some have mentioned a Supertramp soundalike, but I also hear some Gerry
Rafferty---as well as some just plain great original stuff.

10. The Nines---Calling Distance Stations (T.A.S.Entertainment)
Sublime. The best XTC Cd of the last ten years.

11. Roger Joseph Manning Jr--- The Land of Pure Imagination (Cordless)
Not quite enough crunch for these ears, but this till appeals to my
guilty pleasures of Neil Sedaka and Gimbel & Fox.

12. The FormatDog Problems (Nettwerk)

13. Phil Angotti---East Side Soul (Jam)
Im sure this would have ranked higher if the lyrics werent quite so
"Moon, Spoon, June," but Phil is a melody master.

14. Chris Brown---Now That Youre Fed (ChrisBrownTunes)
Is there a category for barber-shop power pop? If not, it starts here.

15. Belle & Sebastian---The Life Pursuit (Matador)
Less melancholy, more melodic than ever.

16. P. HuxMile High Fan (Not Lame)
"Bazooka Joe" and "Princess Jekyll, Mrs. Hyde" are two gems, with great
hooks and sly lyrics.

17. The Elms--- Chess Hotel (Universal)
This is The Elms equivalent of U2s "Rattle & Hum"--- the band is
stretching in different directions and it takes some deep listening to
go with them.

18. Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins---Rabbit Fur Coat (Team Love)
Twang-pop that really caught my ear this year.

19. AlternativA-A Night in Starlight (Alternative Light)
ELO fans will also be quite happy with this one.

20. The Raconteurs---Broken Boy Soldier (V2)
