I heard a lot of new (to me) music this year but most of it was pre-2006. 753 trades on lala.com kept me busy discovering many things, including Looper, Chris Whitley, John Southworth, Mel Torme, and so on.
However, I did have time for new music as well (often thanks to the wisdom of this list):
