Joint winners, really. But if forced to choose, I know it's the Muse
album that'll last longer.

04 - Boy kill boy - Civilian
05 - My Chemical Romance - The black parade
06 - The Concretes - In Colour
07 - The Dears - Gang of losers
08 - Simple Kid - 2
09 - …And you will know us by the trail of dead - So divided
10 - The Fratellis - Costello Music
11 - Joanna Newsom - Ys
12 - Ben Kweller - Ben Kweller
13 - Mates of state - Bring it back
14 - The Young Knives - Voices of animals and men
15 - The Killers - Sam’s town
16 - TV Eyes - TV Eyes
17 - The Pipettes - We are the Pipettes

24 - Semifinalists - Semifinalists
25 - Mando Diao - Ode to ochrasy
26 - The Sounds - Dying to say this to you
27 - Morning Runner - Wilderness is paradise now
28 - Secret Machines - Ten silver drops
29 - Primal Scream - Riot City blues
30 - Milburn - Well well well

XX - The Knife - Silent Shout
(impossible to rank, I find, but it's great)

Arctic Monkeys were this year's terminally over-hyped recyclers, with
too few tunes and too many repetitive ticks. Milburn seem to be
considered a low-cal version of Arctic Monkeys, resulting in Milburn's
album being named one of the worst 5 of 2006 by Q magazine. That's one
of the reasons I feel compelled to include it in my (ultimately
inconsequential) list. It may not matter, but I've quietly made my point.

Also, I'm quite happy to see a fairly cosmopolitan top 10, featuring
Swedes, Americans, Brits, Canadians and an Irishman. Not contrived, but
I like the way it's turned out.

Matt.
