Stewart - you're right, AC was born in 1950 according to any info I can find online.

Alex Chilton (born William Alexander Chilton, on December 28, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee) is an American songwriter, guitarist, singer and producer best known for his work with the pop-music bands the Box Tops and Big Star.
Also found this little tidbit for you mid-westerners. There's a big bash planned in Chicago tonight to celebrate Alex's birthday. Doesn't look like he will be on-hand of course...
