In post-Katrina New Orleans, cassettes are especially handy in the car; 
even though the fidelity is reduced you don't end up 
lis-lis-lis-lis-listening to your CD jump every time you drive over a 
pothole, which is frequently.

They also come in handy for mixes that I know I'm not going to use for 
more than one road trip. I've yet to find a factory-installed CD player 
that reads CD-RWs. :P
