Something I sort of know about...

YFF-

Electric Bird Digest and Low Beat Time might be the two most consistent records. I also like Tribute To Music, but since I recorded and played on one tune, I might not be the one to ask. It only came out in Spain, which complicates things.

The double CD War Against Music, which is a split with Minus 5 is good too as is the Minus 5 disc. I only wrote the liner notes on that one!

The early albums are good fun and contain a load of there classic tunes. Totally lost is sort of a dark album, and plays it straighter than most of their releases.

On the Minus 5 side of things, most all are great. I like the first one, Old Liquidator. Down With Wilco is very nice too. The last one is in some ways the strongest of the bunch. I know Scott had high hopes for that one.

The thing about the Fellows is that they are incredible live, on the good nights anyway. I've only seen one or two dud gigs, and one had to do with $1 shots at happy hour, before the gig. Years ago, Tad asked me which was my favorite album and I had to tell him it was the live experience. He said
that they had heard that a lot. I've lost count of the gigs I have seen. They opened at the release party for the Fellows Trib album a few years ago. It was stunning. Apparently they didn't play anything they had rehearsed. Made all the other bands look sort of lame, and there were some good ones.
The mini-tour I saw with M5, YFF and Roy Loney was the real deal. Chuck Carroll even came out and played one of the shows.

More recently they played a surprise set with Loney at the Sunset. As usual it was transcendental.

My point? You need all the stuff. Good luck finding all the singles, comp tracks, Xmas things, tributes, and cassette only releases...I learned Highway 94 off gaG FaH.... which also has a track I recorded at a gig....

Oh, yeah, you also have to get the Donovan's Brain cds they play on... my band...heheheh

I saw that Rolling Stone recommended the new Robyn Hitchcock/Venus 3 disc; what Young Fresh Fellows or Minus 5 CDs should I start with?
