I know there's a bunch of comic fans on the list, and in case you hadn't heard,
Dave Cockrum, who helped to do a major overhaul of the X-Men, co-creating many
of the team's popular characters, has died. He was 63.
Back in the years just after my high school graduation, when I was hell-bent on
getting into comics as an illustrator, I met Dave at a convention in
Pittsburgh. I showed hime some of my work, and he sat with me for a good
half-hour going over styles and techniques, pointing out what would reproduce
well, what Marvel's preferences were, etc. It waqs an extraorinarily helpful
and educational experience.
