My 22-month old was born, quite amazingly enough, just as the mix CD I'd
made was coming to a close with the Finn Brothers' "Gentle Hum." It
couldn't have been more perfect - not only because the opening lyric is
"This bird has to sing," (cue Toby's first cry) but my wife is a Neil Finn
obsessive while I'm a Jon Brion obsessive, and Jon Brion lent his arsenal of
unique sounds and textures to the production. The song really does sound
like the best of Neil and the best of Jon. And the song will forever have
incredible resonance for us.
