Sony makes an entirely acceptable turntable with an internal pre-amp
for around $100. I forget the model number, but I could go downstairs
and check. As for me, I got a portable DJ model by Numark from Guitar
Center (also about $100 when I got it, but it was on sale) a couple
years ago and it just sits permanently on a corner of my desk for
whenever I want to do something with it.
