I can't claim to have *got* The Drift yet, if ever there was an album you
had to be in the mood to listen to! However on the times I have listened to
it I would agree that I found it easier going than Tilt.

For such a supposedly insular, self-aborbed guy, an album that seems

Actually for all his reputation, the interviews that I saw /read with him in
general painted quite a different picture of him. He certainly had a sense
of humour, something he admitted to needing in the studio whilst recording
such heavy stuff. He also had an awareness of the current music scene.
There's no doubt he's not interested in the whole fame thing but he did talk
about touring (talking of course different from actually doing it). I think
it was more the case that interviewers went in with preconceived notions
about the legendary reclusive Scott Walker. I think his focus is all on the
art and nothing else, and it is his 'art'.

For comparison's sake, other albums jockeying to make my list this

I'm with you on the Shack, definitely a return to form, Camera Obscura, the
Pipettes and the Scritti which is going to be very near the top of my list,
if not number 1.
