I've not heard the new album yet, but I *loved* CAPABLE EGG, so I'm
sure I'll enjoy it.

Buzz on one of my other lists caused me to pick it up, because I'm mad
for vibes. It was correctly described by someone as some kind of
bizarre mix of free jazz and early krautrock.

Shelley Short's album is called CAPTAIN WILD HORSE (RIDES THE HEART OF
TOMORROW), on the great Portland-based indie Hush Records. It's kind
of alt-countryish -- specifically, it reminds me a lot of Amy Allison
and Laura Cantrell -- but it also has a sort of dream-poppy/4AD vibe,
like Lisa Germano or indeed Joanna Newsom.

Au Revoir Simone: three girls, three synthesizers. The lead singer
used to be in Dirty On Purpose (a band that has suffered hugely from
her departure), and the closest comparison I can think of is that
they're kind of like a keyboard-based version of Yo La Tengo circa AND
THEN NOTHING TURNED ITSELF INSIDE OUT: they favor a very sparse,
placid sound that really appeals to me.
