I only ever bought two chrome tapes in my life...both back in the '80s for
some recording sessions I did on various projects.
Here, twenty years later, I don't have the master tapes but have been able
to salvage the mixes we did because the chrome held up all these years
later.
Mind you...I've got normal bias tapes from the '70s and have managed to pull
some great live concert stuff I played just as easily.
Depends on how you treat and store the tapes....
