I was in a music lover's paradise as a teenager. I worked for a couple of
local public radio stations in Connecticut and had access to a huge library
of music at one particular station. If I saw something that looked
appealing, I'd just dupe it and take it home. I can't help but think what
kind of musical life I would have had if I didn't have access to all that
stuff. I discovered The Jam, The Clash, Frank Zappa, tons of jazz and even
some oddball classical stuff that has really made life worth living. It was
particularly good that it happened at such a sponge-like age, too. My
friends were all into metal and didn't know what to make of the stuff I
brought home.
