Deathray have actually been kicking around for awhile. They put out a
quite-good self-titled record way back in 2000 that is a must-check-out for
anyone who's a fan of crisp, arena-friendly power-pop, in a very similar
sonic vein to the first Owsley record, only mixed with a bit more of the
chuga-chuga guitars and clipped vocal delivery of The Cars. The songs aren't
hugely distinguished, but are packed with enough sugary hooks and ear candy
that most people wouldn't mind. --J

<< I haven't seen the movie, but the Westerberg
soundtrack is great - I've read that there is a push
for "I Belong" getting an Oscar nomination. Westerberg
is in typical form, except he's all produced & shiny
this time out. Fun songs like "The Right To Arm Bears"
and "Meet Me In The Meadow." A pair of songs by
Deathray (One original & one Westerberg "Wild As I
Wanna Be")...apparently Deathray are some guys from
Cake. Pete Yorn does a reprise of "I Belong" and throw
in Talking Heads "Wild Wild Life" for kicks.>>
