The Replacements opening for Elvis Costello in Toronto should have
been my favorite concert of all time. But so few people showed for
The Mats' opening set, they just screwed around for half an hour. And
Elvis was a giant bear with a big beard - short two Attractions - not
the same.

My favorite two-few of all-time - which I got to see a few times - was
the Mono Men opening for The Nomads. The Nomads are the best band
I've ever seen that don't have a 'show' - they just stand there and
rock like hell. And the Mono Men along with Estrus Records is the
only thing from the grunge days I still listen to. I noticed the new
Sadies album of surf tunes bookends the album with '3B' and
'Doublewide' - the two names of the legendary home of the Garage Shock
festival in Bellingham - which closed a few months ago.
