Hi,

Michael McCartney's recent post reminded me that I wanted to visit this board and talk about the recent Sparklefest.

But first I wanted to thank Michael McC. for continuing my education in the Hawaiian language, begun when hearing that John Prine song years ago. lol Seeing shivering Michael bundled up for a winter frost in October reminded me of the time I stepped off the airplane in Honolulu in January eleven years ago. My blood had been thickened by a cold New York winter so the heat and sunshine were glorious! Some of my favorite times have been to meet the music fans from this list.

The music scene in the NC triangle area is a tight one. Mike Nicholson and team are to be applauded for presenting the annual Sparklefest. Although some of the bands are a little too loud for this old man's ears, there was so much good music to be enjoyed! Highlights:

- Terry Anderson and the Olympic Ass-Kicking team. Fun from start to finish. Like The Rolling Stones, but without the tree-falling incident.

- Mitch Easter and friends performing a set of Records covers. Hearing the songs live for the first time in over twenty years reminded me how great they are.

- Shalini donning a 12-string bass and joining a 12-stringed Mitch Easter for a set of tunes from Mitch's forthcoming CD.

- Stratocruiser's rocking set, joined by who else? Mitch Easter for a guitar solo.

- The Saving Grace's pure pop. I found a copy of their set list, and evilly called out for the next scheduled song while pointing to the list.

- The acoustic set from Mark and Mike from Athenaeum.

- The Upper Crust. Like Kiss, but with older costumes. They dressed up in Elizabethean costumes, with powdered wigs. Smart move, since the costumes disguise their actual age.

See ya,
Sherman
