My question: Is Aerial Pandemonium > or < it's "parents" ("Aerial
Ballet" and "Pandemonium")? Or maybe just "different then"?
Answer: In my mind 'Aerial Pandemonium Ballet' is cool but is very
different from its predecessors and mostly sounds like what it is, an
afterthought and a nice 'alternates' album to have but I don't think it
replaces or surpasses the original 2 albums from which it was born. I
think 'Aerial Ballet" is an excellent album. 'Pandemonium Shadow Show',
in my opinion, isn't as strong song wise but is still good.
Harry supposedly didn't like his first two records as time went on (or
maybe he just grew tired of them by the time he started getting some
chart success and attention from the mainstream). This supposedly
prompted him to want to make this 'remix' album combining the first two
records, cutting the fat song wise, redoing vocals, adding extra
parts/stripping away others, etc. I've read that he also felt his voice
had changed and he wanted to have those songs out there with his more
current vocal sound/style. In most cases I find the mixes, added parts
and redone vocals to be looser and less polished. There are some
interesting moments/ideas - "Without Her" has a great direct harmony
part added for example but generally I think the original 2 albums
contain the definitive, crafted/polished versions of all those tracks
and should be in your collection if you're a fan.
