Greg,

Yes, and without a doubt, yes. For anyone who's the least bit curious how
they did what they did (aside from developing their songwriting and
performing talents), this book is an instant top-of-the-list reference to be
mandatory reading along with Lewisohn's "Recording Sessions" and Babiuk's
"Beatles Gear." The amount of detail within the pages is staggering, from
the history of the Abbey Road facilities to all the components of the
recording processes during the timeframe to the final section on the actual
production processes. Few if any stones are left unturned in this tome.

Kehew and Ryan have done their best to make the read reasonable for any
Beatles (or music) fan - not too technical, but enough technical detail for
those who want those details (and plenty of glossary info for the
neophytes). They do not go into detail about each song's production, but
rather do so for the truly iconic "how did they do that" songs. At first,
this may sound a bit disappointing, but not so - keep in mind that much of
the early stuff used so much similar production techniques, so when there's
something new and revelatory to be tackled, they most certainly do.

For those that haven't made the financial leap, there are no plans to
produce a paperback version of this book. It's simply too big (550 pages!)
to do a proper paperback binding - the thing would be akin to a metropolitan
phone book (and probably just as liable to get ripped up)!

I know Bobby Sutliff got one (yes, Bobby, saw you on the Hoffman forums),
and I'd be surprised if there aren't other Auditeers that have ponied up.
In my personal case, it's worth it. I'm still reading it thru for the first
time and have had it for 2 weeks! (And I'll probably re-read it immediately
once I'm done as the details are so deep!)

Enough exclamation marks...
