Hi--It's time once again for the Adams Ave. Street Fair in San Diego, the
largest free music festival in SoCal. There's over 70 artists playing in
every genre imaginable. Auditeers in the area are encouraged to check out
the following sets:
Sat. 9-23:
BART MENDOZA--Acoustic set by the Shambles' main man. 2:15 p.m.
SKIP ROPER & THE SHADOWCASTERS--Rare appearance by former Mojo Nixon
collaborator. Expect lots of surf rock. He's on the same time as Bart but on
another stage. Flip a coin...
SONNY BURGESS AND THE PACERS--Sun Records recording artist (and how many of
those guys are left?), best known for "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It" (also
recorded by Ricky Nelson) and "We Wanna Boogie." 7 p.m.
Sun. 9-24:
KITE FLYING SOCIETY---Melodically rich California pop in the best tradition
of Cloud Eleven, Wondermints, The Now People, Orange Peels, Linus of
Hollywood, etc. Their debut CD is all the rave and they were voted "Best New
Artist" at last week's San Diego Music Awards. 11:45 a.m.
THE POWERCHORDS--Great combination of pop n' punk--think of the Undertones
meeting the Ramones. 1:15 p.m.
CINDY LEE BERRYHILL AND BIG OIL--This diva of quirky pop has been seen
opening for Rosie Flores and favoring an alt-country sound. 2:45 p.m.
LAZY LESTER--Mr. "Lover not a fighter" himself!! Now you can judge his
version versus the Kinks! 4:45 p.m.
JOHN DOE THING--Performing the same time as Lazy Lester....decisions,
decisions. The leader of X provides another musical history lesson in
Roots Americana. 4:45 p.m.
Adams Avenue has an easy offramp from the 15 and 805 freeways....I'm
beginning to sound like Cal Worthington. For more info, check out:
