Hey Gang,
I recently rented "Daydream Believers: The Monkees Story" via Netflix
and found it unwatchable, save one redeeming feature. Firstly, it's not
a documentary, it's a low-budget movie with actors playing the Monkees
and everyone else involved. I know, I should have read the blurb and the
reviews much more carefully. On the other hand, in the "special
features" section you'll find 3 long and very interesting on-camera
interviews with Mickey, Davy and Peter (each of them alone, facing one
camera with an off-camera, unheard interviewer) from *2001*. They were
well worth watching! I just finished the book "Monkeemania: The True
Story of the Monkees" and found that 95% of the information in the book
matched up almost perfectly with the words that came out of their
mouths in the DVD interviews. That was refreshing. Their stories fairly
well matched up with each other as well. Good stuff! Just don't expect
anything much from the "movie" if you're already fairly well versed in
the Monkee story.
Can anyone recommend anything on DVD that might resemble what I was
originally hoping to find, i.e. a well done comprehensive documentary
on the whole Monkees story, from first tv auditions through "Head"?
Thanks!
