Hey !!
That fake TV Monkees Story ("Daydream Believers")
was actually shot in Toronto,
wasn't it ?!!
<< Can anyone recommend anything on DVD that might resemble what I was
originally hoping to find, i.e. a well done comprehensive documentary
on the whole Monkees story, from first tv auditions through "Head"? >>
Jeff,
Not sure if any of these are available on (commercial) DVD release
(whaddaya say, CC ??),
but.....
Between the VH1 Behind The Monkees episode
and the band's E! True (hmmm...) Hollywood Story,
you'll see quite alotta cool clips
and not TOO many conflicting stories ;-)
Plus there's that "authorized"
"Hey Hey We're The Monkees" Disney TV documentary
from a decade ago,
with absolutely hilarious on-camera commentary
from all four (yes, even Mike) Monkeemen.
Also of interest
is the latter's companion book
(from Rhino/General Publishing)
not to mention Andrew Sandoval's thorough-and-Then-some
"The Monkees: The Day-By-Day Story of the 60's TV Pop Sensation"
(Thunder Bay Press).
Then there's the terrifyingly-candid Davy Jones autobio
"They Made A Monkee Out Of Me"
(I think it's called);
personally speaking however,
I was quite let down by Randi L. Massingill's
"Total Control: The Michael Nesmith Story,"
and Where's that Peter Tork book he keeps threatening to write ?!!
P.S.,
Monkees sound quite good on iPod too, btw,
