I'm in the "I don't listen to music, except when I can sit down and
listen" camp. Strapping headphones on my head isn't the way I listen. At
work, I could not do my job while listening to music. I'm sitting down
writing and need no distractions. When I come home, I'm working on
music. Mixing Roy Loney at the moment. So when I have the desire and
time, I like to just relax and sort through the new stack, or spin a
favorite or two. I do a lot of research for my radio show, so I dig deep
into the stacks and try to find stuff, sort of like shuffle mode...
which by the way is a great way just to listen to cds... even ones that
are burned into your brain...
I just bought some snazzy new Tannoy moniters for the sitting room
stereo. The old JBL's were bust and the temp Yamaha's were crap. It's
not real loud, but it sounds good.
I listen to lots of vinyl, cause I own lots of vinyl. I have the space
for it, and it is one of the real joys of life.
If you had a huge drive, you could load all the stuff you want into
iTunes on your computer and get the same results... if you were plugged
into the hifi or had a wireless link...
I'm not wild about mp3s but they are a fact of life. It's the only way I
can mix here, and get instant feedback from mr Loney and band.
I've said it so many times, I want the artifact. I don't want a burned
cd with 200 songs, or the music just living on my HD. I do down load
lots of stuff from a band sites... thanks GbV-Bob Pollard... and I get
boots from Blogs. I am not patient enough to do torrents, and I can't
get on Dime A Dozen, so i leave that up to ambitious friends... trade?
In the end, I'm happy with a great old single, as long as it's in ok
shape. Beats all other formats left and right.
But, don't let me stop you from enjoying yer iPod... but just the name
makes me think of that old sci-fi movie Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
bye bye
