Hi-- I enjoy reading these radio comp suggestions. It reminds me how much I
look forward to tuning in on the wireless.
Some things I wish to throw into the mix:
1. SPIRIT STEREO FREQUENCY by All Night Radio. The Ramones once sang about
the joys of listening to the transistor radio under the sheets. I used to
drift in and out of sleep, only to be jolted into reality when the DJ would
say something like "it's 4 a.m. and here's the Beach Boys." All Night
Radio's CD has the same effect; a very dreamy slice of pysch and folk-rock.
A comparison? Try NOTORIOUS BYRD BROTHERS.
2. There's a pretty cool book out on all night radio programming and the
insomniacs who love it. It's called ALL NIGHT RADIO IN AMERICAN LIFE by
Michael C. Keith. Find out more about it at Amazon.
3. Radio theatre has a home! Stan Freberg hosts "When Radio Was..." on
stations around North America. In Southern California, he is on weeknights
at 9 p.m. on 540-AM. He occasionally plays really great old sci-fi-fantasy
radio shows, with scripts by Ray Bradbury and Robert Heinlein. Check out
Stan's website at http://www.radiospirits.com/onradio/meethost_sf.asp
