First off --THANKS, Adam.
Well, this is a bit awkward, responding to a comment about me, but I
feel it's mandatory to give credit to Michael Carpenter for the end
result. It's amazing what can happen if you surround yourself with
talent, and Michael rather effortlessly lent his production skills and
musicianship and performed a real "Home Makeover Edition" on tracks I'd
been struggling with for ages. I told him many times that I was surely
the weakest link on my own album. I would like to evangelize his
services to anybody out there in the same boat as me. Oh, yeah...a few
guest appearances from members of The Rubinoos and Rob Smith of The
Innocents didn't hurt...
Secondly, a comment about the Everly Brothers and powerpop. One of my
all-time favorite albums is "A Date With The Everly Brothers", made in
1960 (although I didn't discover it until around the mid-80's). In my
eyes it is clearly a proto-powerpop album. I believe John and Paul must
have studied and emulated it, and in particular "Made To Love" coulda
shoulda crept onto a Nick Lowe or Marshall Crenshaw album.
One last thought. If you were to pick up the current edition of this
great Everly Brothers album on CD (as a two-fer with bonus tracks), I
beg you to rip and re-burn the CD in it's original format. Otherwise,
to me it seems watered down. Some albums need to be listened to in
their original state, inasmuch as bonus tracks on Sgt. Peppers or Abbey
Road would be despicable.
OK, enough about Carpenter and the Everlys...let's talk more about me!
(eew..)
Marty
P.S. In the great tradition of The Wizard of Oz/Dark Side of the Moon, I
am currently trying to synchronize George Harrison's Wonderwall with
Wonderfalls -- just to see if there's something there.

Who would have thought to do a powerpop version of an Everly Brothers tune? And the album is filled with variety.. everything from the classic pop of Some Summer to the country twang of Coyote (Marty sounds like he plays a mean telecaster) and the pretty lounge pop of Lucky Day. But the standout track is the simple 'Only Heaven Knows'. It reminds me of other classic pop ballads, like "If I Fell'. Understated, simple but beautiful and potent. I think there's a lot here for Auditeers to like.
