Yup, there is a new Silos album "Come on like the fast lane"...they were
selling it (a European release) at their shows opening for The Minus Five
back in the Spring. I assume that this is the record that Bloodshot will put
out eventually, but occasionally the American versions of Silos albums are
different (in track sequence or names, artwork, or occasionally in mixes or
the songs themselves), so who knows what Bloodshot will do.

I think it's kinda weird that Bloodshot is releasing it 'cause they're so
specific (on their website, at least) about only considering "alt-country"
projects for their label. This is probably the most crunchy-alternative-rock
album the Silos have ever recorded, and not really very Bloodshotish.

Their last album, 2004's "When the Telephone Rings" I thought was one of
their best albums ever, and it did really hearken back to the Cuba era. It
came out on Dual-Tone, and it should've been really huge for them, in my
opinion...I wonder what happened....

This new one is a lot darker than "Telephone", with some really heavy and
riffy tunes. There are a couple of Walter's poppier moments, a couple quiet
songs, and a really interesting story song played in a mysterious
cowboy/Western style. They also total rewrite of a song called "I Won You
Won" that first appeared on Walter's solo album "Radar" in the mid-90s.
He'll occasionally re-write and re-release a song from a past album...I
can't think of any other bands who do that.

Also, more than half the songs are co-writes by Walter and other interesting
writers including Steve Wynn, Gary Sunshine (who was in the "Heater"-era
Silos lineup), and other Walter-collaborators like Dave Bassett, and Mark
Bening.

I think the defining quality of this album is that there are no guest
musicians, just the core trio of the band, with bass player Drew Glackin
overdubbing all the lead guitar stuff (he's an amazing lead guitarist, by
the way). Konrad Meissner, the drummer, seems to be adding his input to the
arrangements more than ever, too....lots of crazy drumming and time
signature changes throughout.
