> Without actually checking (because research is, y'know, overrated),
I'd say that the recording of both "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" and
(the then-unreleased) "All Of Your Toys" predate the Headquarters album
You were right CC, I shoulda known! I checked the Sandoval book and
The Girl I Knew Somewhere was recorded in Jan 1967 (along with All of
Your Toys), while You Told Me was recorded only 2 months later, in
March.
> Hey Bill! I've always wanted to hire the Monkees to be the
session musicians on one of my records.
Hey Rob - cool idea!
> ever heard the story about zappa asking dolenz to join his band?
Nope, do tell!!
> The Monkee's and the Sundowners talk comes at a time where I just
got a copy of "The Monkee's Live 1967"
I've heard that's an excellent album, but never got it. One o' these
days...
> My biggest surprise is that "I wanna be free" (never a fav) has a
bit less gooey singing coming from Davy and it's got more bite
musically (relatively speaking). Fun to hear.
I thought that song sounded great in that very unusual (and extremely
cool/candid) episode of The Monkees TV show where they all perform a
tune "solo." Perhaps it was the last episode in season one? Robbie
White - I'm sure you know!
Be seeing you,
Bill
