Their first album, 2003's "Interventions and Lullabies," was actually on
Elektra, and was one of the pleasant surprises of that year. The album's
single, the appropriately-titled "The First Single (Cause a Scene)" was
extremely catchy (lots of handclaps and harmonies!) and even garnered a
small amount of airplay, but they were dropped anyway.

If you enjoy "Dog Problems," then definitely check out the first album too.
I wouldn't say it's *as* good, but only because it isn't as ambitious. It
mines the same indie power-pop territory, sounding like one part of The
Shins and one part Jellyfish, much like "Dog Problems," just with less of
the more baroque stuff like you find on the second album's title track, and
more songs that sound like "The Compromise."

Definitely worth a listen, though. I'm glad to see that these guys seem to
be doing well in spite of being dropped. I was going to try and go see them
tonight at Axis in Boston but when I tried to buy tickets a few days ago the
show had already sold out. --J
