Last Saturday's IPO show took place at Fais Do Do near USC. As the name
suggests, there's a whole New Orleans vibe about the place. You almost
expect Marlon Brando and Tennessee Williams to come walking in at any
moment.
The highlights of the night were the sets by STEFANO, LIGHT FM, and BRIAN
RAY & BLACK UNICORN. Stefano is the closest to an "emo" performer I've
witnessed at IPO, and he pulled off a cover of Queen/Bowie's "Under
Pressure." Really enjoyed Light FM's swirling psych-pop. Not a Rainbow
Quartz band, But I think fans of that record label would like these guys.
Brian Ray had the opportunity to play on the road with Macca and turned in
some fab powerpop. He ended his set with a scorching version of "Tears of a
Clown," maximum r&b, Who style.
Let me time-warp into the present and remind pop fans around SoCal that
tonight's (8-2-06) IPO show at Safari Sam's will include road warrior Adam
Marsland, Steve Barton (Translator) and the Piper Downs. See ya!!
Steve
