Saturday day show highlight for me was Kenny Howes and band....Mike Simmons
on drums and Jaime Knight on bass (from Sparklejets*uk). He put on a
rocking performance playing both new and old tunes. Fighter Pilots also put
on a real rocking show. Fan of the Waking Hours would probably like this
band. Dave Stephens and Poperratic both put on very good solo performances.
The Spots were not a band for the weak at heart.....straight on rock n roll
with some screaming infused.
Saturday evening.....The Tearaways.......their set hands down is my favorite
of the festival (so far). They opened their set with Jessica Something.
I was in total pop heaven......They played songs from their new cd and
closed the set with No Where Left to Turn.....David's favorite. The
Sexies put on a really good set as well as Eugene Edwards. And we all had
cake to celebrate Anni Celsi birthday.
Sunday afternoon - this day was filled with the eclectic quirky side of pop.
Sean O'Brien had defininte XTC influence. Cult of Sue Todd were pretty
quirky with lots of screaming. Blake Jones, who set I enjoyed is kinda of
cross between Zappa and Beach Boys. Jeff Caudhill, (who is not quirky) put
on a really nice set, kind of borders on the country edge. Service Group
was fav of the afternoon. They are kind of mod/garage. I picked up their
album, Maximum R&B. It has a great cover of an old beat up
Pinto.....cracked me up
Sunday evening - this evening was a real mix of styles. Evening opened with
Butch Young. I was looking forward to seeing him cause he has really cool
tune on the IPO disc that reminded me of Steely Dan. Unfortunately the
sound wasn't mixed well, the instruments (particularly the violin)
overpowered his voice :-( Squiddo was up next. They do a glam / new wave
thing. The lead singer has a bit of Chrissy Hind look about her. Their
tunes definitely will make want to get up and move. When Dimebox hit the
stage, I am thinking....... IP-hodown. These ladies looked they were gonna
belt out some square dancing tunes. Dimebox is a 5 piece female group
fronted by Kristie Callen. Very tight band but total country. Nice Guy
Eddie was up next. It was good to see Chris Jackson out playing again. I
liked his new tunes, not quite as rocking as his older material. Wislely
was quite the entertainer. He had the audience laughing with his funny
stories and tunes. Truly Lover Trio was reminscent of Buddy Holly, lots
of fun. Michael Miller rounded the evening out with solo performance. If
you watch the Gilmore Girls, Michael was one the musicians when they had
the episode with all the the musicians in the town square
