Craig:
"Anyways, sometimes I miss this list, anyone know what I mean?"
Years ago, Bruce Brodeen suggested I join this list. I've learned a lot
about music in that time. I've also had to wade through a lot of stuff I
don't personally care about to get to the compelling music content.
Occasional thread-drift is fine---it's inescapable in group e-mail.
Glad you re-posted Bruce's soapbox column about the difficulties in the
music biz and why we should all throw support behind the indie music
scene. So, yeah, I know what you mean.
My advice, Craig, fwiw: Keep posting to tell us about your music finds
and this list will be just fine.
So, owing my participation here to Mr Brodeen, I want to tell you that
the following recommended Not Lame CDs are not in any way payback---
these are just really good listens.
FRESH MOWED LAWN: Sun Sawed in Half's "Bewilderbeest" was my favorite
release when it came out (3, 4, 5 years ago?). Sun's Tim Rose has a
multi-textured follow-up with FML. I've listened to it twice, without
the CD booklet in front of me, so I don;'yet know track names, but it
all sounds really strong. Definitely worth the wait!
PARTHENON HUXLEY's "Mile High Fan": Previously unreleased tracks from
'88-'93, some featuring Jason Falkner, Rusty Anderson and other stellar
talents. Some tracks have that late '80s production staple of lots of
reverb on the drums, like the sticks are hitting something liquid. That
said, the songs are excellent, especially "Princess Jekyll, Mrs. Hyde"
(a "bonus" track!).
Support indie music (hey, maybe some indie comics, too!)
