True story, although it reads like an Internet hoax. I know it's true at
least this once, because I know the nurse very well.
Single mom gave birth and had some complications and was sedated in the
hospital for a few days before she was stabilized. Nurse went to visit her
afterwards as she was with her daughter. Asked the woman the daughter's name
and she told her (pronounced phonetically) fa-MAH-lay. When she asked the
woman the origin of such a pretty sounding name the woman said she didn't
pick it out; the hospital named the baby for her.
Apparently she misunderstood the birth certificate (or whatever the paper of
record at the time was) that had the word "female" as a placeholder for the
child's name while the woman was incapacitated...
